{"id":1157,"date":"2011-10-25T17:31:04","date_gmt":"2011-10-25T21:31:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/riseupbuffalo.com\/wordpress\/?p=85"},"modified":"2017-07-02T14:07:34","modified_gmt":"2017-07-02T18:07:34","slug":"from-the-archives-back-from-the-big-city-30-june-2007","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hippiegrrlexplainsitall.com\/?p=1157","title":{"rendered":"From the archives &#8211; back from the big city &#8211; 30 june 2007"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>yes, we have returned!<\/p>\n<p>spending a weekend in toronto (or canada in general) always makes us want to do more for the environment. it also nudges us more in the direction of activism. realizing that toronto is a major metorpolitan area, you would think this wouldn\u2019t be the case, but they are very conscious of usage, recycling, etc. up there.<\/p>\n<p>so &#8211; considering the fact that we don\u2019t want to be left behind when it comes to environmental awareness &amp; activism, here are a few links to things happening locally in the western new york community!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.re-treewny.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">re-tree wny<\/a> &#8211; group formed to start the replanting process this coming fall for the trees that were lost during our storm in october 2006.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.streetsareforpeople.org\/blog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">streets are for people<\/a> &#8211; this group is organized in the toronto gta (mainly the queen west\/kensington market neighbourhoods) to take back the streets for people. buffalo could use a little of this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/greenoptionsbuffalo.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">buffalo blue bicycle<\/a> &#8211; buffalo\u2019s bike sharing program. a great way for citizens to get back into biking without making a large investment in a new bicycle. you can join the club, learn how to repair bikes and share with other like-minded biking citizens! a season membership is only $25 or 6 hours of service helping to repair\/maintain bikes. not bad!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/freegan.info\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">freegans<\/a> &#8211; As it states on the freegan website &#8211; \u201cFreegans are people who employ alternative strategies for living based on limited participation in the conventional economy and minimal consumption of resources.
